Venezuelan authorities announced this Friday that they had located and shot “El Conejo”, one of Venezuela’s most wanted criminals for various crimes, including terrorism and kidnapping.
“Carlos Enrique Gómez Rodríguez, known by the ‘alias’ of ‘El Conejo’, a terrorist criminal wanted for terrorism, extortion, kidnapping and murder, among other crimes that have seriously affected the lives of civilians, was shot”announced the Venezuelan Minister of the Interior and Justice, Remígio Ceballos.
The announcement was made on Venezuelan state television and the death, according to the minister, took place during a police operation in the city of Irapa, in the state of Sucre (east of the country), on March 23.
The location and fall of “El Conejo” took place after months of operations in several states of Venezuelan territory and in which “all civil security agencies and the Bolivarian forces” of Venezuela participated.
During these operations, 36 criminals were arrested, 9 vehicles, 41 portable radios, 17 mobile phones, 14 motorcycles, special equipment, 16 firearms, chargers and war material, both explosives and ammunition, were seized.
“We will not allow the presence of criminal, terrorist and armed groups on our territory. We also maintain permanent international cooperation in the search for criminals who have committed crimes on our territory”said the minister.
According to the Venezuelan press, El Conejo was one of the most wanted criminals in the country. It had a criminal operations center in Las Tejerías, in the municipality of Santos Michelena in the state of Aragua (west of Caracas).’
From then on it controlled other locations such as La Victoria and La Colonia Tovar and also several regions of Miranda state.
The Venezuelan government had offered a $1 million reward to anyone who provided information that would aid his arrest.
