Biden condemns Nashville shooting, calls for “more” to protect schools

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, condemned this Monday the shooting that killed three minors and three adults at a school in Nashville, Tennessee, in the US, and stressed that “more” must be done to protect schools.

“We must do more to end gun violence. We must do more to protect our schools from becoming prisons. I ask Congress again to pass my ban on firearms,” she said at the start of a Washington event on women entrepreneurs.

Joe Biden considered what happened, the “worst nightmare of families”, as “sick”.

Three minors and three adults were killed in a shooting at a Christian private school in Nashville, in which the alleged shooter, identified as a 28-year-old woman, was killed by police.

The White House responded by urging lawmakers to take more action against firearms.

“How many more children will it take to kill before the Republicans in Congress approve a ban on firearms? (…) We must do more. Biden wants Congress to act. Enough is enough,” said the spokeswoman for the presidency of the United States, Karine Jean. -Pierre, at a press conference.

The school where the attack occurred is a private center that caters for children from pre-school age up to around 11 years of age.

At least 30 incidents involving firearms have been reported in schools across the United States, resulting in eight deaths and 23 injuries, according to data from the organization Everytown for Gun Safety.
