According to a Norwegian non-governmental organization, the number of operational nuclear warheads around the world will increase by 2022, particularly in Russia and the People’s Republic of China.
By 2023, the nine nuclear powers (official and unofficial) will have a total of 9,576 ready-to-use warheads, “equivalent to a force equivalent to 135,000 ‘Hiroshima bombs’,” Norsk Folkehjelp said today.

The report from the non-governmental organization (NGO) headquartered in Oslo states that the increase of 136 warheads in the world’s nuclear arsenal – last year – is attributable to Russia, which has the largest number (5,889 operational warheads) , along with the Republic of People from China, India, North Korea and Pakistan.
“This increase is alarming and continues a trend that started in 2017,” said Grethe Lauglo Ostern, one of the report’s authors.
“The total number of nuclear weapons around the world will soon increase again for the first time since the Cold War,” Lauglo Østern warned.
On the other hand, the total number of nuclear weapons, including those projectiles retired for longevity, continues to decline.
The number of nuclear weapons rose from 12,705 to 12,512 in one year, as a result of the decommissioning of the oldest nuclear warheads in Russian and American arsenals.
The eight official nuclear powers are the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, the People’s Republic of China, India, Pakistan and North Korea.
The State of Israel has nuclear weapons, but does not belong to the official group.
