Russian President Vladimir Putin posthumously decorated a military blogger killed the previous day in a bomb attack on Monday, a case in which Moscow blamed Ukraine and “agents” of opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
The Order of Courage is awarded to Maxime Fomin “for the courage and bravery he has shown in the exercise of his professional duties,” read a decree posted on the Kremlin website.
Vladlen Tatarsky was killed on Sunday by a bomb explosion in a St. Petersburg cafe, where he was speaking at a conference by an organization called “Cyber Z Front”, which is favorable to the operation of Russian forces in Ukraine.
At least 32 other people were injured, eight of whom remain in serious condition. A 26-year-old woman was quickly arrested, presented by the Russian authorities as affiliated with Vladimir Putin’s longtime opponent, Alexeï Navalny.
