The train accident that occurred this Tuesday in the Netherlands, which left at least one dead and dozens injured, caused the interruption of the line normally used to connect Amsterdam with Brussels and Paris.
The railway authorities expect train circulation to resume on this line this Tuesday afternoon.
At least one person was killed and 30 injured, including 19 seriously, in a passenger train derailment between The Hague and Amsterdam in the southern Netherlands, according to rescue services.
“The seriously injured were transferred to nearby hospitals,” while 11 people received assistance in nearby homes, according to the emergency services website.
The passenger train derailed at 03:25 (02:25 in Lisbon), after hitting construction materials that were on the track, in the town of Voorschoten, in the section between Leyde and The Hague, the sources indicated. .
According to local authorities, the passenger train was carrying around 50 people. It is a “terrible train accident”, said the Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, on the social network Twitter, confirming that “unfortunately one person died and many were injured”.
“My thoughts are with the loved ones and all the victims,” Rutte added.
It’s a “black day for Dutch railways,” lamented ProRail’s rail network manager John Voppen.
A freight train also collided separately with construction equipment, railway officials said.
“The freight train’s electric locomotive was seriously damaged, but the driver was examined by a doctor and is in good condition,” operator DB Cargo said.
“Several different investigations have already been launched and we want to know exactly what happened,” a ProRail spokesman said, adding that tracks and power lines were damaged.
