Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba defended on Tuesday that the best solution for Euro-Atlantic security is for the country to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
“Finnish’s accession is a clear message that the time has come to outline all strategies and there is no better solution for Euro-Atlantic security as a whole than the eventual participation of Ukraine,” said Dmytro Kuleba, shortly before the start of a meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers, at the headquarters of the Atlantic Alliance, in Brussels, Belgium.
Kuleba was invited by the NATO member states to participate in the meeting, since one of the issues that will be on the table is political, economic, financial and military support for Ukraine, which for more than a year has been trying to repel Ukraine. invasion launched by the Russian Federation, which has already caused thousands of deaths and caused the flight of millions of Ukrainian citizens.
On Monday, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg was asked again about Ukraine’s accession and responded to what he has been saying since the question was raised: eventual Kiev accession will only be possible when the conflict is resolved.
As of today, NATO now has 31 member states, with the accession of Helsinki, which was the fastest process for a country to join the Atlantic Alliance.
The bid began jointly with Sweden, but a dispute with Turkey persists over Ankara’s arms embargoes and Stockholm’s refusal to recognize, for example, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) as a terrorist organization. .
This organization is considered a terrorist group by the European Union and by NATO itself.
Today’s meeting takes place on the same day that NATO celebrates 74 years of existence.
