Putin blames Western secret services for recent attacks in Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday accused Western secret services of being involved in terrorist attacks in Russia, three days after the death of a well-known military blogger in a bomb attack in St Petersburg.

Putin spoke in the presence of Moscow-installed leaders in the four Ukrainian regions Russia plans to annex by 2022.

The Russian president also accused Ukrainian authorities of committing “serious crimes against the citizens living there, sparing no one”, citing the existence of artillery fire and “terrorist attacks” against officials appointed by the Russians , as well as other public figures.

Putin ordered Russian security forces to “do everything in their power to ensure the safety of the local population” in these regions.

On Sunday, a well-known pro-Russian military blogger, Maxime Fomin, known by the pseudonym Vladlen Tatarsky and for his support of the Russian offensive in Ukraine, was killed in a bomb attack at a St Petersburg cafe that belonged to the leader of the paramilitary group Wagner, Yevgeny Prigojine.

Moscow has accused Kiev and “agents” associated with detained Russian adversary Alexei Navalny of being involved in the assassination.

Ukraine, in turn, assured that the attack is an internal reckoning in circles that support the offensive in Russia.

“This action was carried out by us autonomously. We do not maintain contact with and receive no assistance from any foreign structure or secret services,” the St. Petersburg NRA cell said in a message on the Telegram Rospartizan channel.

The note reminds that Tatarsky, pseudonym of Maxime Fomin, was a “war instigator and a war criminal” and that the cafe where the explosion took place was owned by the head of the Wagner mercenary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, whom the NRA describes as “one of the most famous Russian criminals”.

The NRA assures that the attack did not target civilians and that all those injured are supporters of the Russian military campaign in Ukraine and justify “the war crimes committed by the regime of Ukraine”. [Vladimir] Putin (Russian President) in Ukraine”.

Russian diplomacy spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said today that the assassination of Maxime Fomin “will be one of the topics discussed” in the UN Security Council, a body with Russia’s rotating presidency (one of five permanent members, with the right of veto) took over on April 1 despite waging war in the neighboring country, violating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of an independent state and thereby violating the principles of international law enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.
