The military exercises launched this Saturday by China in the Taiwan Strait are aimed at a “total siege” of the island, according to Chinese state television CCTV.
“Today’s exercise focuses on the ability to take control of the sea, airspace and information […] in order to create deterrence and total encirclement” of Taiwan, CCTV said.
The exact location of these operations is unknown. The narrowest part of the Taiwan Strait between the Chinese coast and the island is about 130 kilometers.
According to CCTV, for these exercises, destroyers, fast missile launchers, combat aircraft, tankers and jammers are mainly mobilized.
