China says it shared data on Covid-19, calls on WHO not to politicize investigation

China assured today that it shared all the data it obtained on covid-19 and asked the World Health Organization (WHO) not to politicize the investigation into the origin of the virus.

At a press conference, Zhou Lei, a researcher at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, assured that, in the initial phase of the pandemic, the country “shared all the results without any type of reservation or concealment.”

WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus recently said that “China holds the key to understanding the origin of the coronavirus,” calling on the country to cooperate with the investigation.

For Zhou Lei, the possibility that the virus has begun to spread in the city of Wuhan as a result of an infection between an animal and a human is “between probable and relatively probable”.

The specialist qualified, for his part, the hypothesis that the virus arrived through an intermediate host as “between probable and very probable”.

The possibility that the outbreak in the city originated from frozen products is seen as “probable”.

According to the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention, it is “extremely unlikely” that the pandemic originated in a laboratory.
