A Polish citizen was arrested in the municipality of Torres Vedras because he was pending an arrest warrant for fraud in paying for stays in several European countries, the GNR announced on Monday.
The man “practiced cheating by paying for stays in the countries he visited and made it his way of life,” a GNR source told the Lusa agency.
The 26-year-old suspect was arrested as he prepared for yet another scam in the Parque de Campismo de Santa Cruz.
He claimed he had already paid for the stay to park officials after being summoned to the GNR, whose military later verified that a European arrest warrant had been pending against him since 2022 for crimes of aggravated fraud.
According to the same source, the man was present at the Lisbon Court of Appeal and was handed over to Lisbon Prison to be extradited to his country to serve his sentence.
