Russia’s main airline, Aeroflot, has sent one of its planes to Iran for repairs for the first time amid Western sanctions imposed after the start of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, the RBK newspaper reported Monday.
last day 5, An Airbus A330-300 has been sent to Tehran for technical maintenance by Iran’s largest airline, Mahan Air, sources close to Aeroflot told the daily, confirming a representative of the Russian company.
According to RBK sources, Aeroflot discussed the possibility of contracting the maintenance of its fleet in Iran for several months.
The shipment of the first A330 is due to the need for maintenance on the aircraft’s landing gear.
Previously, Aeroflot used the services of other companies, such as HAECO, based in Hong Kong, for these purposes.
In the summer of 2021, the company signed a multi-year agreement with this company for the maintenance and overhaul of aircraft components.
But international sanctions, adopted in response to the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, launched in February 2022, also affected repair and parts supply services to Russian airlines, refers to the RBK.
An Aeroflot representative told the Russian newspaper that Mahan Air has “the necessary material base, certificates and extensive experience” to carry out the maintenance of the company’s fleet.
