Drone explodes at Russian airport on Ukraine border

A drone exploded on Monday at the airport in the Russian city of Belgorod, located on the border with Ukraine, the Russian authorities announced on Tuesday, who have not yet mentioned victims or material damage.

Russian authorities, quoted by the Russian daily Izvestia, said the drone exploded at the airport premises around 4:30 p.m. local time (6:30 p.m. in Lisbon) on Monday.

So far, the Russian government has not identified those responsible for the incident.

Belgorod Oblast, as well as Briansk and Kursk Oblasts, have been under attack since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine on February 24 last year, by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

These Russian provinces are in a state of anti-terrorism alert due to attacks by Ukrainian forces, according to the Russian government.
