Putin passes law targeting Russians who refuse to serve in the military

Russian President Vladimir Putin passed a law on Friday targeting men of military age who refuse to serve in the military.including conscripts and reservists, as part of the Russian military campaign in Ukraine.

The law, approved this week by both houses of the Russian parliament (Duma and Senate), prohibits those drafted by the Russian military from leaving the country from the moment they receive the corresponding notification until they arrive at the recruiting center report.

Russians have two weeks to appear, from written or electronic notification of the obligation to go to the ranks.

Further, if the person concerned does not go to the recruitment center within 20 days, the ability to open a business, get a driver’s license, buy real estate or apply for a bank loan is temporarily restricted.

The document it also creates a single electronic register of men of military age so that no one can argue that they have no proof that they have received the official letter in their personal account on the public services portal.

Putin has called up 300,000 reservists

Although not a few Russians have opted out of the aforementioned administrative website, the authors of the law have warned that deleting their account does not exempt them from participating.

That is why many Russians this week started registering real estate, real estate or cars in the name of their wives and other relatives.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied this week that the passage of this law paves the way for a second mobilization, though doubts remain.

Putin has already called up 300,000 reservists and the point of the law regarding opening a new mobilization campaign remains secret.

In addition, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced plans to increase the number of soldiers in the army to 1.5 million.

The military offensive launched by Russia in Ukraine on February 24, 2022 was justified by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security.

This offensive was condemned by the international community at large, which responded by sending arms to Ukraine and imposing political and economic sanctions on Russia.

The UN presented as confirmed, since the beginning of the war, 8,490 civilian deaths and 14,244 wounded, underlining that the figures are far from real.
