Jean-Marie Le Pen, France’s historic far-right leader, is “doing well” in hospital after suffering a mild heart attack, his daughter Marine Le Pen said on Sunday. “He is doing well and I thank everyone who asked about his health”said Le Pen, who lost to Emmanuel Macron in the last two French presidential elections.
“I haven’t seen him yet and will soon, he’s fine and that’s the main thing”added the deputy and also said the father, aged 94, was hospitalized on Saturday, would need some checks.
Five-time president Jean-Marie Le Pen shocked France in 2002 when he reached the second round against President Jacques Chirac.
Marine Le Pen’s father was hospitalized near Paris on Saturday after heart problems, Le Point magazine said in a report later confirmed by Le Pen’s longtime adviser Lorrain de Saint Affrique. He has had several bouts of ill health in recent years, most recently in February last year when he was hospitalized after suffering a “minor” stroke.
