British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is being investigated for potential conflicts of interest by the parliamentary oversight agency over the conduct of British MPs, it was revealed on Monday.
Parliamentary conduct commissioner Daniel Greenberg opened the investigation into Sunak last week, citing rules requiring MPs to declare their interests in an “open and honest” manner.
“Members must always be open and honest when declaring relevant interests in the work of the House or its committees, and in all communications with ministers, members, officials or holders of public office,” the commissioner’s website said.
After news of the investigation was released, a spokesman for the prime minister said Sunak would help the commissioner clarify the matter “in a transparent manner”.
It involves a minority stake held by his wife, Akshata Murphy, in the company Koru Kids, which will have benefited from recent financial support announced by the government for kindergartens and childcare.
