After the “coronation chicken” – the poached chicken served at the coronation of Isabel II in 1953 – Carlos and Camilla revealed this Monday the recipe chosen for the big day: a quiche with spinach, fava beans and tarragon.
The King and Queen’s consort, who will be crowned on May 6, has “personally chosen” the recipe, which appears on the royal family’s Twitter account.
In addition to spinach, fava beans and tarragon, it also contains milk, cream, eggs and cheddar cheese.
It’s a dish that “adapts easily to different tastes and preferences,” they explained, with a video of a chef preparing the recipe.
“Can be eaten hot or cold with a green salad and boiled new potatoes,” the ad adds.
Will quiche be as successful as Elizabeth II’s “coronation chicken”? The curry-poached chicken served at Buckingham Palace at a coronation banquet in 1953 has become a British classic.
Today it can be found as a ready-made dish in supermarkets, as a filling on sandwiches and is imitated in various cookbooks.
The coronation of Charles III and Camilla will take place at Westminster Abbey on May 6, with around 2,000 in attendance. It is followed by a weekend of partying and a show at Windsor Castle.
