The body of a stowaway passenger was found Monday at Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport, in the landing gear of a plane from Toronto, according to Dutch police.
The plane “must have made other stops”, including in Lagos, Nigeria, a police spokesman told Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Airport workers discovered the body of a man as they were about to start work on the plane in a hangar, it added.
The KLM airline plane arrived in the Netherlands from Toronto, Canada, and will have made a stopover in Lagos beforehand.
“There is an ongoing investigation,” Van Kapel added, without providing more information on the man’s identity or specifying where he came from.
“Incidents like this happen sporadically,” he said.
A stowaway survived the 9,000km journey between Johannesburg and Amsterdam last year by hiding in the front landing gear of a cargo plane.
In 2021, the border police discovered the body of a Nigerian in the landing gear of a plane arriving at Amsterdam-Schiphol.
