The British airline easyJet has revised upward its profit forecast for this year due to increased profits and strong future demand for flights and holidays, it announced on Tuesday.
In a financial update, the airline said on Tuesday it had cut its losses for the six months ending at the end of March by more than 120 million pounds (135 million euros) compared to a year earlier.
The number of passengers of the airline reached 15.6 million in the first three months of the year, more than a third above the 11.6 million registered in the same period of 2022.
easyJet said it expected to beat market expectations and achieve gross profits of 260 million pounds (294 million euros) a year by the end of September, when it publishes its annual results.
“Demand for easyJet flights and holidays continued to grow during the half, with a £120 million (€135 million) improvement in our performance, as well as a £1 billion gain on the previous year.” , said today the CEO (Chief Executive Officer, executive president) of the airline, Johan Lundgren.
This, he added, is bolstered by the airline’s “transformed network of popular destinations and improved earning power.”
“We see continued strong booking momentum heading into the summer as customers prioritize travel spend and choose airlines such as easyJet, which offers good value for money and a mix of destinations, as well as easyJet Holidays, which continues its strong growth trajectory as the UK’s fastest growing airline holiday company,” said Lundgren.
“All this means that easyJet expects to exceed market expectations with its performance in its 2023 annual results,” he anticipated.
