An Indian climber was rescued alive on Thursday after going missing in the mountains of Nepal. Agence France-Presse (AFP) reports that Anurag Maloo, 34, was descending from the camp in Annapurna on Monday when he fell from a 300-meter ravine.
Rescue teams located the man who was taken “in critical condition” from the scene by a team of eight operators. According to AFP, the climber was stabilized and airlifted to Pokhara hospital.
Annapurna, the 10th highest mountain in the world, is notorious for avalanches and has the highest fatality rate. On Monday, well-known Northern Irish climber Noel Hanna, 56, died at Camp Four after successfully scaling the top of the mountain.
A day later, Indian climber Baljeet Kaur, 28, and his compatriot Arjun Vajpai, 30, were rescued after a search that lasted several hours.
The region’s spring climbing season got off to a tragic start last week with the deaths of three Nepalese climbers on Everest.
