The main suspect in the disappearance of Maddie McCann, in the Algarve, will not be tried in Germany this year for five counts of rape and assault.
“Brunswick Court denies jurisdiction” in these five cases, it said on Thursday.
According to the court, the last known address of the suspect was not within its jurisdiction. That is why the Public Prosecution Service in Brunswick in northern Germany must also be removed from the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, the suspect’s lawyer indicated.
The German Christian Brückner is the main suspect in the murder of the British girl, who disappeared on May 3, 2007 – shortly before her fourth birthday – in the Algarve, where she was on holiday with her family.
The pedophile repeat offender lived in southern Portugal for several years and is currently serving a seven-year sentence in Germany for raping a 72-year-old American woman.
He was also charged with five other crimes and other sexual harassment cases committed in Portugal between 2000 and 2017, for which he was expected to face trial in the coming months.
At the moment it is up to the other German regional prosecutors – from where the suspect lived – to decide whether to accept these cases.
