US President Joe Biden said in a statement Friday that the United States “will work with allies and partners to impose swift and severe additional economic sanctions on Russia” if Moscow annexes territory in Ukraine.
“Russia’s referendums are a farce, a false pretext to try to annex parts of Ukraine by force,” denounced Biden, who has already approved several packages of economic and financial sanctions against various personalities of the Vladimir Putin regime.
Voting in referendums in the Luhansk, Kherson, Zaporizhia and Donetsk regions of eastern Ukraine began today and is expected to continue until Tuesday.
On Thursday, pro-Russian separatists in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions said they had everything ready for “integration referendums in Russia”.
