Brazil’s President Lula da Silva this Monday praised Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa for changing “the face of Portugal”, including in the political relationship with the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
“I remember when he won [primeiro-ministro português] the first election [legislativa]in Brazil [a ideia que] what was sold was that the ‘device’ had won the elections in Portugal but the ‘device’ in Brazil is not very good it’s a lot of things but the truth is you [António Costa] changes the face of Portugal, also in the political relationship with the president [da República] Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa”said the Brazilian head of state at the Portugal – Brazil Business Forum taking place in Matosinhos, Porto district.
In a speech lasting more than 20 minutes, Lula da Silva considered it “an extraordinary thing” for people who think differently to establish rules for peaceful coexistence for the benefit of their people.
In his speech to the Prime Minister, the Brazilian President said that together they can set a goal, something they want to achieve between Brazil and Portugal.
“We can achieve this because in politics you have to set goals, in politics you have to have a project, in politics you can’t rule at the vagaries of the wind, in politics you strategically determine what you want to happen,” he said.
That is why Lula da Silva, who is today on the third day of his state visit to Portugal, is sure that this cooperation with Portugal will change Brazil’s history and bring “extraordinary fruits” to both countries.
The President of Brazil took advantage of the meeting and invited António Costa to attend the next business meeting between these two countries to be held in Brazil.
And he added, “I hope you are [António Costa] present so as not to lose the impetus we have here today, as I hope that the President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will be there”.
Lula da Silva wants Brazil to be an international protagonist again and therefore avoids talking about war
Brazil’s president assured that Brazil is back to become an international protagonist, which is why he has tried to build peace and not talk about war.
“Brazil is back to be an international protagonist, that’s why I even dedicate myself to stop talking about war and build peace so that humanity can live better”said Lula da Silva in a speech of more than 20 minutes at the Portugal-Brazil Business Forum in Matosinhos, Porto district.
Brazil is ready to become a great country again, Brazil is ready to become an important country again, Brazil is ready to become an attractive country again. hegemonic relations with anyone, we want to build partnerships,” said the Brazilian head of state.
During a more than 20-minute speech, in which the Portuguese Prime Minister, António Costa, was in the audience, Lula da Silva believed that for Brazil to regain the importance it has always had, the President, businessmen, thinkers, deputies and senators must travel.
“We can’t stay locked up under four keys, thinking the world thinks we’re beautiful and will invest,” he stressed.
The head of state noted that Brazil had been “away from the world” for almost six years.
And he added: “For six years our country was rejected by other countries and the other countries also rejected Brazil”.
According to Lula da Silva, Brazil has not received a single president and, referring to his predecessor Jair Bolsonaro, the president did not travel to any country because “no one was interested in talking to people who were not behaving very civilized”.
Reason why Brazil was held back because the president did not do what a president should do, which is to build relationships and convince others of Brazil’s importance and quality, he said.
But according to Lula da Silva, for the president of the republic to be able to visit other countries and attract foreign capital, Brazil must provide social, political and legal stability, otherwise no one will put “a penny” into the country. .
And as for partnerships, the Brazilian president highlighted the one with Portugal, calling for investment by Portuguese businessmen.
“The partnership between Brazil and Portugal is important because Portugal has always been treated as a small country. But there is nothing like establishing a relationship with Portugal and producing and exporting products to European countries together from here in Portugal, because it is much easier … and simple,” he emphasized.
At the moment, he stressed, Brazil is restoring all the policies that have been “dismantled” in recent years, namely that of social inclusion.
“My government’s priority is to resume the development of social inclusion in the country in a sustainable way,” he stressed.
