Mozambique, which in 2022 was ranked 116, rises four places (102) and Equatorial Guinea registers the largest increase in Portuguese-speaking, rising 21 positions, although it remains at 120.

According to the note accompanying the 21st edition of RSF’s Press Freedom Index, some of the biggest drops occurred in Africa, such as Senegal (it fell 31 places to 104th place), mainly “due to criminal charges against two journalists.” . – Pape Alé Niang and Pape Ndiaye, and the sharp decrease in the security of media staff.”

In the Maghreb, Tunisia (121) fell 27 places, “due to the growing authoritarianism of President Kais Saied and President Kais Saied’s inability to tolerate media criticism.”
