American actor Michael Douglas will receive the career award in May at the Cannes Film Festival in France, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Michael Douglas will receive the 76th Palme d’Or for his career at the Cannes Film Festival in recognition “for his brilliant career and his dedication to cinema,” the direction justified in a statement.
In the same statement, the actor said that going to Cannes “is always a breath of fresh air” and that the last time he was at the festival was for the 2013 premiere of Steven Soderbergh’s film “Behind the Chandelier”, in which he embodied the artist Liberace.
“After more than 50 years in this profession, it is always an honor to return to the ‘Croisette’ to open the festival and embrace our universal and shared film language”he claimed.
Michael Douglas, 78 years old, award-winning television and film producer and actor, both in independent films and major Hollywood productions, is also recognized “for the defense of multiple causes”, namely nuclear disarmament and arms control, recalled the Cannes Film Festival.
The 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival will take place from May 16 to 27 and Michael Douglas will receive the Palme d’Or for his career at the opening ceremony.
