In his traditional message to the nation, the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, addressed the Russian citizens, and in particular the soldiers, offering them guarantees in case of surrender.
“Ukraine guarantees three things to every Russian soldier who surrenders. First: he will be treated in a civilized manner, in accordance with all conventions. Second: no one will know the circumstances of his surrender, no one in Russia will know that his surrender was voluntary. And third : If you are afraid to go back to Russia and you don’t want to be exchanged, we will find a way to do it,” he said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking directly to Russian citizens on Saturday night, told them that their president was knowingly sending “citizens to their deaths.”
“The Russian power understands perfectly well that it is sending its citizens to their deaths,” Volodymyr Zelensky said in Russian, calling on Moscow forces to surrender.
