China on Thursday urged “all parties” to avoid “measures that could aggravate the situation” after the alleged attack by unmanned aerial vehicles (‘drones’) on the Kremlin that took place on Tuesday evening.
“The Chinese position on the Ukraine crisis is consistent and clear. All sides should avoid taking measures that could further worsen the situation.”Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said at a news conference.
According to Moscow, two drones were destroyed on Tuesday night while en route to the Kremlin. The wreckage of the devices fell on the grounds of the presidential residence and caused no casualties or property damage.
Since the start of the war, China, which has opposed sanctions against Moscow, has reiterated the importance of respecting the territorial integrity of countries, including Ukraine, and the “legitimate security concerns of all parties”, referring to Russia.
China sees the partnership with Russia as fundamental to opposing the liberal democratic order at a time when relations with the United States are also going through a period of great tension.
