Ukraine shot down one of its ‘drones’ over which it lost control on Thursday night in kyiv, causing an explosion followed by a fire, the Ukrainian Air Force reported.
“On May 4, around 8:00 p.m. (6:00 p.m. in Lisbon) in the Kiev region, during a scheduled flight, the Bayraktar TB2 UAV lost control,” the UAV Air Force Command reported. Armed Forces of Ukraine through the Telegram social network.
In the operation to bring down the ‘dron’, and in its fall, there were no victims or injuries, according to the same sources cited by the Efe news agency.
“The target was destroyed. It’s a pity, but this is technology and such cases happen. It was probably due to a technical malfunction, the reasons are becoming clear,” the Ukrainian Air Force said in a statement.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), the crash of the ‘drone’ caused an explosion, followed by a fire.
The military offensive launched on February 24, 2022 by Russia in Ukraine has so far caused the flight of more than 14.6 million people -6.5 million internally displaced persons and more than 8.1 million to European countries-, according to the latest data from the UN, which classifies this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since World War II (1939-1945).
At least 18 million Ukrainians need humanitarian aid and 9.3 million need food aid and housing.
The Russian invasion – justified by Russian President Vladimir Putin as the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security – was condemned by the wider international community, which has responded by sending arms to Ukraine and imposing them on Russia in political and economic sanctions.
The UN presented as confirmed since the beginning of the war 8,709 dead civilians and 14,666 wounded, stressing that these figures are far from the real ones.
