Trump confirms he will appeal the sexual assault verdict against a journalist

Former US President Donald Trump confirmed on Wednesday that he intends to appeal Tuesday’s verdict that found him guilty of sexual assault and defamation against journalist E. Jean Carroll.

According to the jury’s verdict, Trump was required to pay $5 million to Carroll, who said he took the case to court “to clear his name and restore his life.” before sentencing “all the women who have suffered”.

Carroll, now 79, accused the Republican tycoon of raping her in a dressing room at a Manhattan lingerie store in 1996.

‘I hope justice is done on appeal’responded to Trump on Wednesday, in a post on the social network Truth Social, about his signature style of capitalization, repeating the version that he didn’t even know the journalist.

Trump has argued that the process was a “political farce” designed to jeopardize his White House rematch in the 2024 election.

‘This whole witch hunt is about election interference’Trump wrote.

On Tuesday, Trump’s campaign team also alluded to the political nature of the process, implicitly acknowledging that it could affect Trump’s candidacy, which tops polls of Republican candidates.
