Man shoots two people dead at Mercedes factory in southeastern Germany

Two people were killed on Thursday when a 53-year-old man was shot inside a Mercedes-Benz factory in southeastern Germany, company sources said.

The shooting took place in Sindelfingen, near Stuttgart.

The suspect is a 53-year-old man who was detained by the authorities, a source from the German prosecutor’s office told the DPA news agency.

The police received the first emergency contact at 07:45 (06:45 in Lisbon) and subsequently released a message through the social network Twitter informing the factory workers that after the suspect’s capture “there was no longer any danger “.

The reasons for the shooting have not yet been determined and the identity of the suspect has not been released by law enforcement authorities.

In a statement, Mercedes-Benz mourned the death of the two people at the Sindelfingen factory.

“We are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic news,” the company said in a statement.

At the Sindelfingen factory complex, around 35,000 people work in vehicle production.
