Russia accuses the US of bribing the International Criminal Court to order Putin’s arrest

Dmitry Medvedev, vice president of Russia’s Security Council, accused the United States on Friday of bribing the International Criminal Court (ICC) to order the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“I remember that this year the budget of that special court was increased by 24 million euros. You can interpret it any way you like, but in essence it looks like a bribe from the US authorities.”said Dmitry Medvedev in a speech at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum.

The former Russian president stressed that this bribe would be aimed at promoting “anti-Russian issues related to the conflict in Ukraine”.

The arrest warrant “is, of course, demonstrative and absurd, even painful. But unfortunately it has certain consequences,” he said.

Dmitry Medvedev stressed that the international justice system began to crumble with the establishment in 1993 of the International Criminal Court for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague.

“It was precisely from that period that faith in international justice was seriously shaken and began to die,” he defended.

Dmitry Medvedev denounced that international institutions have been replaced by organizations that conform to the will of various countries, referring to the US, and that it makes no sense for Russia to continue to belong to these organizations.

“If international treaties are not applied and court decisions recognized by countries are not enforced, then artillery works and even hypersonic missiles will fly,” he said.
