Iranian director Asghar Farhadi supports the protesters in his country. As the protest continues in Tehran following the death of a young woman arrested by the morality police, the filmmaker posted a video on Instagram on Sunday:

41 killed in protests
The protests began on September 16, the day of the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman arrested three days earlier in the capital for “wearing inappropriate clothing”. Since then, bareheaded citizens have continued to take to the streets, despite an ultraviolent crackdown that has already killed 41 people.

A progressive figure in a country plagued by obscurantism since the 1979 Islamic revolution, Asghar Farhadi is particularly acclaimed internationally. He has been awarded some of the world’s most prestigious awards: his film A seperation won the César and the Oscar for best foreign film in 2012 and his last film, A heroit won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival last year.
