A few days ago he said that he “did not believe” in Vladimir Putin’s threats, but now he believes that they could be “a reality”. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has once again reacted to threats made by his Russian counterpart last week.
The latter said, in a speech to the Russian nation, ready to use “all weapons at his disposal” against the West, including nuclear ones, “if Russia’s national interests are ever threatened.” If Volodymyr Zelensky had initially considered “not believing” these threats, he reconsidered his statement in an interview with CBS on Sunday.
“Maybe yesterday it was a bluff. Now it could be a reality,” the Ukrainian president said.
“Keep pushing him”
Volodymyr Zelensky then recalled the various bombardments that have targeted the surroundings of the Zaporizhia NPP for several weeks. Evidence according to him that Vladimir Putin “wants to scare the whole world.”
“These are the first steps of his nuclear blackmail. I don’t think he’s lying,” he continued.
“The world is deterring it and containing this threat” for now, according to the president, who urges Westerners to “keep pressing it and not allow it to continue.”
Along with his threats, Vladimir Putin also announced a “partial mobilization” of the Russian reserve forces have “military experience”, paving the way for a major escalation in the conflict in Ukraine.
