The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, will discuss this Sunday, during a dinner in Paris, France’s support for “Ukraine’s urgent needs, both military and humanitarian,” the Elysees Palace announced in a declaration.
Emmanuel Macron “will reaffirm the unwavering support of France and Europe for the restoration of Ukraine’s legitimate rights and the defense of its fundamental interests,” the presidential palace added.
Both will debate “the longer-term prospects for the return of peace to Europe”, especially the bases of the plan presented by Zelensky, which continues to have the support of France.
The Ukrainian president will arrive at an air base near Paris, after passing through Italy, the Vatican and Germany since Saturday, at a time when Ukrainian troops are expected to launch a counteroffensive against Russia.
In an interview with the newspaper “L’Opinion”, Macron insisted that “Russia should not win the war”, so it is necessary to continue providing military aid to Kiev, but he maintained the position of building a new security architecture that ” create sustainable balances”, with security guarantees in Ukraine without seeking confrontation with Russia.
After visiting Italy and the Vatican on Saturday, and Germany today, the Ukrainian president is making his second visit to Paris since the start of the Russian offensive, in February 2022.
In February of this year, his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, had already received him at the Élysée Palace, along with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
