Three dead and several missing from floods in northeastern Italy

At least three people have died, several are missing and thousands have had to be evacuated due to the floods caused by heavy rains that have affected several cities in northeastern Italy in recent hours.

Due to torrential rains that hit much of Italy, several rivers burst their banks in the cities of Cesena, Faenza and Riccione, which were completely flooded.

According to local authorities, about five thousand people had to be evacuated and transferred to some sports centers.

Today, the authorities will continue to evict people who take refuge on the upper floors or on the roofs of buildings.

Schools and other activities remain closed and regional rail traffic in the region is disrupted.

The mayor of Cesena, Enzo Lattuca, reported on his social networks that the rivers continue to overflow and reminded the public “of the recommendation to stay away from watercourses and basements.”

The alarm also went off in Bologna, where the municipality warned of the possibility of flooding today in the streets surrounding the Ravone river.
