Pope Francis asks the world not to get used to conflicts, war and violence

Pope Francis asked the world this Sunday not to get used to conflicts, war and violence, recalling the situation in the “martyrs” Ukraine and Sudan, after the Regina Coeli prayer.

“Please, let’s not get used to conflicts and violence, let’s not get used to war, please. And let us continue to be close to the Ukrainian martyred people, ”he asked, from the window of the Apostolic Palace, behind the Regina Coeli, which replaces the Angelus during the Easter period.

On Ukraine, a conflict that Francis is closely following, the Holy See confirmed this Saturday that it has commissioned the Italian Cardinal Matteo Zuppi to commission a peacekeeping mission to seek mediation in this conflict, which originated from the Russian invasion. in February 2022.

Francis also had words for Sudan, a country he visited last January and in whose peace process he mediated in 2019, receiving members of the two warring factions for a “spiritual retreat” in the Vatican.

“Dear brothers and sisters, it is sad, but a month after the start of the violence in Sudan, the situation is still serious,” he lamented.

The Pope welcomed the partial agreements reached so far and renewed his call to “lay down arms.”

“I ask the international community to spare no effort to make dialogue prevail and alleviate the suffering of the population,” he said.
