The Zaporijia nuclear power plant, controlled by Moscow troops, was once again without access to Ukraine’s power grid, Russian operators said Monday. A potentially dangerous situation that is becoming more and more common due to the bombings.
“The failure of a power line left the plant without external power,” the Russian government wrote in Telegram, adding that the causes of the outage are being investigated and backup diesel generators are keeping it running.
Energoatom, a Ukrainian state-owned company, quoted by The Guardian, claims this is the seventh power failure at the nuclear power plant since the start of the war, on February 24, 2022.
According to Yuriy Malashko, governor of the Zaporijia region, the fire was caused by an overload of the electricity grid.
“The electricity supply problems that arose in the city of Zaporijia have nothing to do with the bombings,” Malashko said on social media.
