An Argentine journalist who denounced police brutality in the northern province of Corrientes has been found hanged at home, police sources report Sunday.
The body of Griselda Blanco, 45, was discovered on Saturday by one of her brothers at her home in Curuzu Cuatia, 600 kilometers north of Buenos Aires. The suicide hypothesis was quickly ruled out and a former partner of the journalist suspected of the murder was arrested, the same sources said.
The victim showed signs of being beaten, hair was found on his hands – suggesting he was trying to defend himself – and no signs of a home break-in were found, the same source added.

Blanco’s family said they doubted the guilt of ex-partner Armando Jara, also a journalist. “I don’t think this should be called femicide (…). In my opinion, Jara had nothing to do with this, although we are waiting for the experts’ reports and the results,” said Lautaro Cesani, one of her sons. beards victim had with another partner.
According to Cesani, Griselda Blanco received threats after publishing articles on her local news website “Griselda Blanco Noticias” about alleged police brutality in Corrientes province and a case of negligence at a hospital.
The Public Prosecution Service removed the police from the investigation area and handed them over to the Argentine Federal Police.
The Argentine Federation of Press Workers (Fatpren) expressed “deep concern” in a statement, underlining that the journalist had “denounced the negligence of the local hospital and of the political and police forces”.
