Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna in Kyiv on Tuesday for a support visit

Catherine Colonna will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kouleba and Prosecutor General Andriï Kostin.

French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna traveled to kyiv on Tuesday for a support visit to Ukraine against Russia’s invasion.

“Hello Ukraine, France is by your side,” Catherine Colonna said on Twitter, accompanying her message with a photo of her in a foggy Kyiv square in the company of French ambassador Étienne de Poncins.

“Solidarity with France”

Catherine Colonna will meet during this visit, the third to Ukraine since the beginning of the war, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kouleba and Prosecutor General Andriy Kostine.

You should also visit the Gostomel airport in the Kyiv region, which was the subject of fierce fighting at the beginning of the war. Russian forces finally withdrew from the region in late March.

“The minister wishes to demonstrate France’s solidarity with the Ukrainian people and its full determination to strengthen its support for Ukraine and its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the ministry said in a statement.

According to the ministry, this visit also aims to highlight “the reinforcement of the support provided by France, both in terms of the supply of defense equipment and the fight against impunity, as well as in financial and humanitarian terms.”

The Ministry analyzes the sending of a humanitarian ship to Ukraine with “more than 1,000 tons of aid on board” and the efforts to create a “protection zone” around the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, occupied by Russian forces and a target from multiple bombardments.

The visit comes as Russia on Friday ends organizing annexation referendums in four Ukrainian regions under its full or partial control. These polls have been denounced by Kyiv and its allies as “simulacra.”

French President Emmanuel Macron called them a “parody” and “provocation” last week on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
