Buckingham rejects the return of the Ethiopian prince’s body

According to what the BBC quotes, Prince Alemayehu was brought to the UK at the age of seven and was orphaned after his mother died on the journey, according to what the BBC quotes.

Queen Victoria then took an interest in him and arranged for his education and eventually his funeral when he died aged just 18.

But his family wants his remains to be sent to Ethiopia.

“We want his remains back, as a family and as Ethiopians, because he was not born in this country,” one of the royal descendants, Fasil Minas, told the BBC.

“It was not right” that he be buried in the UK, he added.

But in a statement to the BBC, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said the removal of his remains could affect others buried in the catacombs of St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

“It is very unlikely that it will be possible to exhume the remains without disturbing the resting place of a significant number of other people nearby,” the palace said.
