Ukraine: Zelensky announces the creation of the Marine Corps with modern equipment

On Tuesday, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that traveling abroad allows “strengthening the defense” and “increasing the capacity” of the Ukrainian army, and announced the creation of a new Marine Corps.

“New naval brigades will be added to our existing units and we will equip them with modern weapons and equipment”emphasized the Ukrainian head of state during the usual daily evening speech on his social networks.

The minister, who visited the Donetsk region this Tuesday, where he was on the front lines at Vuhledar and Maryinka, explained that the displacement was the final step “after numerous meetings and negotiations with partners that have taken place these days and in the previous weeks.” .

“Everyone must understand this: the main task of our country and the goal of practically all our international communication is to strengthen Ukraine, strengthen our defenses, increase the capabilities of our warriors and our country as a whole”emphasized the President of Ukraine.

Zelensky also stressed that “every visit” abroad and “almost every negotiation” allows Ukraine to “get stronger”.

“Thanks to everyone who gives strength to Ukraine! The strength of our state now, the strength of our defense now, is the basis of the strength of the rules-based international order”he concluded.

In addition to Crimea, the Ukrainian peninsula annexed in 2014, Moscow has declared the annexation of four regions of Ukraine – Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporijia – since the start of the war, although it does not control all respective areas. .

The military offensive launched by Russia in Ukraine on February 24, 2022 has so far led to the flight of more than 14.7 million people – 6.5 million internally displaced persons and more than 8.2 million to European countries – according to the latest data from the UN, which classifies this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since World War II (1939-1945).
