The military intelligence service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine denounced this Wednesday that Russia continues to use the Zaporojia nuclear power plant, in the southeast of the Ukrainian territory and under Russian control, as a military base.
“Despite repeated calls by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and international leaders, the occupiers are not reducing their presence at the Zaporojia nuclear power plant,” the ministry said in a statement.
“At this moment, the area around reactors one, two and four is being used as a military and logistics base,” adds the same informative note, which is accompanied by two photographs showing several trucks inside the nuclear power plant, according to reports. International organizations. .
According to the Ukrainian authorities, Russian forces keep armored vehicles and military trucks near these reactors, possibly with ammunition and explosive material.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine also announces that nuclear plant workers in charge of its supervision are prohibited from accessing these areas.
“Those who tried to carry out control rounds suffered attacks,” added the statement, which guarantees that some of the employees who tried to monitor the facilities are in the hospital in serious condition.
Kiev accuses Russia of using the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe, to launch military strikes against Ukraine so that Ukrainian forces cannot respond for fear of causing a nuclear accident.
For its part, Moscow accuses Ukraine of systematically bombing the nuclear power plant, which is under Russian control.
The Russian military offensive on Ukrainian territory, launched on February 24 last year, plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).
