The man who opened an emergency exit during a flight in South Korea felt “suffocated” and wanted to leave quickly, police in that country said.
The Asiana Airlines plane was carrying 194 people on a domestic flight between Jeju Island and Daegu Airport.
The emergency exit of the Airbus A321-200 was open for about three minutes at about 200 meters above sea level before the plane landed, according to authorities.
Despite the incident, the Asiana Airlines plane managed to land safely around 12:40 p.m. However, nine passengers were taken to hospital with breathing difficulties.
The passenger was taken away by Daegu police and reportedly told authorities he was “under pressure after recently losing his job”. “He felt the flight was taking longer than it should and he felt suffocated in the cabin,” authorities said, quoted by The Guardian. “He wanted to leave quickly.”
