This Sunday, the inhabitants of Venice woke up to the water of the Grand Canal with a fluorescent green color. The causes of the color change are not known to the local authorities.
“This morning, a green fluorescent liquid spot appears on the Grand Canal of Venice, near the Rialto Bridge, according to some residents. The mayor has called an emergency meeting with the police to investigate the origin of the liquid,” wrote the governor of the Veneto . region, Luca Zaia , on your Twitter account.

According to CNN news, local authorities are investigating what may have happened, collecting water samples and using video surveillance footage next to the Rialto Bridge.

Some theories about what may have happened are circulating on social media, from ink spills by environmentalists to a natural phenomenon caused by algae.
It is not the first time that the water in Venice’s Grand Canal has changed color. In 1968, an Argentinian artist painted the water green at the Venice Biennale to address environmental concerns.
