GNR rescues 151 migrants off the coast of Crotone, Italy

This Saturday, the National Republican Guard rescued 151 migrants alive, 35 of them children, off the coast of Crotone, in Italy, as part of the mission it is carrying out as part of the European border control agency Frontex.

In a statement, the GNR indicates that during a patrol operation the speedboat “Bojador” detected a fishing vessel heading for the Italian coast at 1:35 p.m. on Saturday, on which several people were visible.

“Since only the coastal patrol boat Bojador was on site and given the large number of people on board, instructions were given to remain vigilant and wait for the arrival of another Guardia Costiera ship to begin the rescue operation.” the GNR’s Coastal Control Unit.

The transfer of migrants was completed at 4:00 pm, with transfer to Crotone port, “where all rescued migrants disembarked safely and the operation was completed in the early hours of 28 May”.

The National Republican Guard, through the Coastal Control Unit, designed the coastal patrol boat “Bojador” in the joint operation “THEMIS 2023” – Italy, under the auspices of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex), within the framework of operational coordination at the external borders of the European Union, to manage migration flows and prevent cross-border crime, which runs until July 12, 2023.
