Three patients died this Tuesday in a fire in the room of the Austrian hospital where they were admitted, while another 20 people were injured, the local press said.
One of the fatalities was 78 years old and the other 81, and there is still no information about the third fatality, nor any explanation about the origin of the fire.
The fire started around 1 a.m. (12 a.m. in Lisbon) in a room on the third floor of the internal medicine department of the clinical hospital in the town of Mödling, some 12 miles from Vienna, the agency APA reported.
A total of 90 patients had to be removed from the places where they had been hospitalized.
A team of 173 firefighters and 33 firefighting vehicles went to the hospital to contain the fire, which was declared extinguished two hours later.
Authorities are investigating the causes of the fire.
