Ukraine: Putin accuses Kiev of terrorizing civilians with attacks on Moscow

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday accused Ukraine of terrorism and terrorizing the Russian population following an unprecedented drone (unmanned aerial vehicle) attack against the Moscow region.

“This was an attack on civilian targets in Moscow,” Putin told state television, quoted by Spain’s EFE news agency.

Putin said the attack was in response to Russian bombing of military targets in Ukraine on Sunday, revealing that Moscow attacked Ukrainian military intelligence “two or three days ago”.

“In response, the regime in Kiev has taken a different path, which is to try to intimidate Russia, intimidate Russian citizens and attack residential buildings. This is clearly a clear sign of terrorist activity,” he said.

Putin said Kiev’s actions were intended to provoke a “symmetrical response” against civilian targets in the neighboring country.

“I am concerned about attempts to provoke a reaction from Russia. It is clear that this is what they are looking for: to provoke us with symmetrical actions. We will see what we will do,” he added.

Russia has accused Kiev of carrying out a drone strike on Moscow this morning, causing two minor injuries and minor damage to several buildings.

Russia’s defense ministry said eight devices were involved in the attack, with five shot down by anti-aircraft fire and three neutralized by electronic means, the official TASS agency said.

Ukraine has denied having a “direct link” to the attacks in the Russian capital region.

Tuesday’s action against Moscow came two days after two people were killed in Kiev in a new attack by Russia, which invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
