A former senior manager of the pandemic management in China does not rule out the possibility that SARS-Cov-2 originated in a laboratory leak. Professor George Gao headed the China Center for Disease Control [CDCC] and, in an interview with the BBC’s “Fever” podcast, reveals that nothing can be ruled out about the origins of the virus that was detected in the Chinese city of Wuhan at the end of 2019.
“You can always suspect something. It’s science. You can’t exclude anything,” Gao said. The renowned virologist and immunologist is now the vice president of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, having left the CDCC last year.
The Chinese government has always denied the possibility of SARS-Cov-2, the virus that gave rise to the global outbreak and caused the death of millions of people. In April, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the end of the pandemic.
