Man breaks into actor Benedict Cumberbatch’s home with a knife

A man armed with a knife broke into the home of British actor Benedict Cumberbatch in London. Jack Bissell, former executive chef of The Beaumont Hotel, a five-star luxury hotel, broke down the villa’s iron gate, spat on the intercom and ripped it off the wall. He later threatened the actor with a knife and said he wanted to set the house on fire. But he could not enter the interior of the residence.

“I know you moved here, I hope this burns,” Bissell said.

According to the British newspaper Daily Mail, the actor’s wife, Sophie Hunter, and their three children were also at the scene during what happened. Jack Bissel eventually ran away, but was arrested by the police.

The man was eventually fined £250 (280 euros) and given a three-year restraining order preventing him from anywhere near the actor and family.

Benedict and Sophie were terrified and reportedly had many sleepless nights, a source told the Daily Mail.

The case went to court on May 10, but has only now been made public by the British press.

The former chef already had a criminal record for theft, public order offences, drug possession and property crime warnings.

Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch, 46, is a British actor known for his roles in films such as Sherlock Holmes and as Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
