The unemployment rate falls to 6.5% in the euro zone in April

The unemployment rate fell, in April, to 6.5% in the euro zone and 6.0% in the European Union, according to data released this Thursday by Eurostat.

In the euro zone, the unemployment rate in April (6.5%) fell from 6.7% in the same month of 2022 and when compared to 6.6% in March.

In the EU, according to data from the European Statistical Office, unemployment fell in the year-on-year comparison (6.1% in April 2022) and remained stable at 6.0% in the chain change.

In April, an estimated 13,028 million people were unemployed in the EU, of which 11,088 in the euro area.

Among Member States, Spain (12.7%), Greece (11.2%) and Italy (7.8%) had the highest unemployment rates in April and Poland, Czech Republic (2.7% each) and Malta (2.8%) the lowest. .

In Portugal, unemployment was 6.8%, above the euro zone average.
