The US embassy in Russia on Wednesday issued a new security warning for US citizens, asking them to leave the country “immediately”, despite the few commercial flights available as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
In a statement, the United States of America (US) diplomatic mission in Moscow warned that “commercial flights are currently extremely limited so that sometimes none are available”.
However, the embassy confirmed that land routes outside Russian territory are still open.
“If you want to leave Russia, you need to make the necessary preparations as soon as possible. The US embassy is currently very limited in providing aid to US citizens and the conditions could become more and more restrictive.”according to the same information note.
The diplomatic mission also warned that Russian authorities “could deny Americans dual citizenship and access to consular assistance to prevent them from leaving the country” after announcing the partial mobilization on the 21st.
“U.S. citizens are not allowed to travel to Russia and those residing in the country or on Russian territory must leave immediately,” the U.S. embassy said in the statement, indicating that the diplomatic mission will provide all relevant information about options for entry. to Russia. neighboring countries.
In this regard, the embassy reminded US citizens that “freedom of expression and the right to peaceful assembly are not guaranteed in Russia”, urging them to “avoid protests and take pictures of security forces in the context of such events”.
“Russian authorities have already arrested Russian citizens who took part in demonstrations,” he said.
Also this Wednesday, Poland and Bulgaria appealed to their citizens to leave Russia as soon as possible using the available means of transport.
The governments of Warsaw and Sofia fear that it will become increasingly difficult to leave Russian territory.
Moscow’s announcement last week of the mobilization of 300,000 reservists leads to the exodus of large numbers of Russian military-age men who refuse to fight in Ukraine, which has been the target of a Russian military offensive since last February.
These men fled the country to Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Finland.
